Molly’s Den
It’s been a crazy start to the year so far what with tax, work, family and new projects to concentrate on so I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog front. When you’re juggling, like we all do, sometimes you just gotta drop a few balls! But now I’m back and ready with a list of posts that I want to take on.
Molly’s Den is somewhere I have been desperate to have a good snoop about in and I finally had a free morning to do just that, child free. ( I tried once with my 2-year-old daughter, what was I thinking?! A bull in a china shop has nothing on her) This is one of my favourite kinds of places because you just never know what you are going to find. It’s a ‘Retail and Trade Warehouse of Unique Treasures’. You’ll find it on Francis Avenue, Bournemouth. Those of you not in the area must check out their website as many of their items are available to buy online.
They have an incredible amount of space split up for 250 traders to display their array of retro furniture, vintage clothing, collectables and antiques. You can find anything from Thunderbird puppets to old electric heaters that have been converted into lamps. Perhaps you are looking for that perfect item to fill a space in your home but you just don’t know what to put there. Perhaps a vintage step-ladder is what you’re after to turn into a book shelf or a pile of old suitcases to use as a bedside table. This is a place to get creative, here are some of the things that caught my eye.
Original Schreiber 50’s sofa – Isn’t it incredible? (£300)
I am always drawn to Ercol (wooden coffee table) , I love its smooth simple shapes. As for the mirrored cabinets, everyone from Next to Marks and Spencers are trying to copy this look. Why not break from the herd and go for something a little less mass produced and know that your next door neighbour doesn’t have the same one!
The next batch of goodies to catch my eye were these incredible lights. They are made by ‘Original Lighting’ and they specialise in industrial style lighting and convert things like old ‘bar fire’s’ into lamps. Very cool and so different.
Molly’s Den seems to go on and on, room after room of treasures just waiting for you to discover them. If you are after something to put on the wall why not consider a vintage print or advertising campaign from a 60’s magazine? These one’s are fantastic, very Mad Men!
You may not be after anything specific, in which case just mooch about and see what you can find. You might find something you never even knew you wanted!
I seemed to be having a bit of a girly moment and loved all of the pink glass and china that was dotted about the place.
Now the one thing that will make a visit to anywhere better is cake, clearly, so I was really pleased to find that Molly’s Den also comes with a Molly’s Kitchen! There is even a penned off area for kids, complete with retro toys. As you would imagine this cafe is a mismatched dream of tables and chairs and crockery. The best thing is all the tables and chairs are also for sale. While you are up there you might like to spend another hour going through the huge collection of records. I even found an origional Beatles album, a little dog-eared but it would be great in a record frame.
I will be sure to visit Molly’s Den again and again. Everytime I’ll find something new or that I didn’t spot before, something wonderful, crazy or both. Give yourself a few hours to have a really good mooch. Or like I said before, if you’re not local check out their website here.
Enjoy!
Love Katy x
